The Disappearing River 2021 ︎

︎The Disappearing River started with the removal of my mother's uterus. She gave birth to me in China in the 1990s under solid social pressure and relied on medical technology. From the moment her uterus was removed, I realized that the social fate of women living in a patriarchal society like me was bound together. Under the patriarchal discourse, "Mother nature" is highly praised; the glory of motherhood is infinitely magnified. Through this work, I try to criticize female reproduction as the whole life meaning of women as human beings. I have made 8 films (including metaphorical images such as the combination of b-ultrasound images and natural landscapes) through the conversion experiment between digital and physical materials and put these future narrative short films into the present. Form a river installation from the future, colliding with the present. Also a poetic, silent, and helpless resistance.︎
